Who Are The Best Big Data Vendors For Professional Services?

Regardless of industry, professional services companies face larger and more complex data sets than ever before, and are looking for new ways to analyze and use that data.

For an increasing amount of companies, big data is now an important and even central component of their business strategy, with the insights gained leading to a valuable competitive advantage.

With a new slew of big data vendors seemingly hitting the market monthly, we examine five of the major players and what makes each stand out from the rest.

Accenture
Accenture Analytics, the big data arm of Accenture’s management consultant and technology services, has made the firm one of the leading vendors offering big data services, with reliable productivity boosts. The analytics applications platform targets financial services firms looking to retain customers, boost sales, simplify the credit scoring process, or cut costs associated with claims fraud. According to a company release, the package of applications can be customized for specific users, from data scientists to company executives. Its unique selling point is in offering analytics for specific applications, ranging from real-time credit decisions, to a wealth management tool kit, to applying predictive analytics to cut losses from claims fraud, and “customer churn management.”

Deloitte
Each year, IDC MarketScape issues its Worldwide Business Consulting Services 2014 Vendor Assessment, and each year, Deloitte is chosen as among the best of all consultancy firms at delivering value-creating innovation from big data. The report argues Deloitte is better than many of its peers at helping clients reduce costs, improve operational efficiency, and identify and implement options for growth. Deloitte advocates its “executable strategy” with a broad services footprint to help clients from strategy development to execution. Deloitte continues to invest in new solutions, models, capabilities, and creative collaborations.

Hewlett-Packard
Hewlett-Packard’s Haven Big Data platform offers comprehensive software, services, and hardware to analyze all the data relevant to any organization. It’s available on-premise or on-demand, and is designed to generate powerful strategic insights, and drive superior business outcomes for a competitive advantage. HP’s platform is designed to offer comprehensive information management with intelligent policy-based protection, to offer accessibility and retention of organizational data for optimized recoverability, and to reduce the risks of loss and misuse, so you can leverage it for operational insight and value.

IBM
According to Doug Henschen, executive editor of InformationWeek, IBM has the broadest data-management portfolio in the industry, hands down. “IBM has a bevy of data-integration, data-cleansing, and data-quality software options to help capture and clean data,” he notes. “It also has plenty of business intelligence and analytics offerings, including Cognos, SPSS, text- and unstructured-data mining options, and IBM-developed tools for Hadoop, including Big Sheets and BigSQL.” Additionally, IBM is building out its SaaS portfolio and cloud infrastructure, with the $2 billion SoftLayer acquisition being a tangible example of its cloud commitment.

PricewaterhouseCoopers
For those thinking about PwC, the company says it can help any business design a big data platform to inform and enable your strategy and investments in order to quickly address tangible business issues and opportunities. The platform is designed to help companies discover how big data can help you achieve “intelligence at the moment” to help you take decisive action when opportunities or risks arise.

While you could be forgiven for assuming major players like the above are focused on major enterprises, in truth all offer options specifically for small and medium businesses. You have nothing to lose, and a significant competitive advantage to gain by investigating how their big data options could help your business productivity and efficiency.
