Use Tech To Upgrade Your Vehicles

A crucial part of successful entrepreneurship is changing with the times, and that applies to the vehicles you use. There are numerous options to make your fleet more efficient and productive.

Does your business rely on keeping track of your fleet’s location? Perhaps you need to dispatch a truck from one locale to another, and time is wasted calling drivers to determine where they are? Richard Reina, product training director for CARiD.com, advises GPS trackers are the answer.

“By putting one in each vehicle, it can tell you at a glance the exact location of every vehicle,” he says. “You can more efficiently decide which truck should go where. As an added bonus, many of these trackers also record cumulative mileages, useful for tax and reimbursement payments.”

Peter Baldine, president of Moran Family of Brands, which oversees the Alta Mere Automotive Outfitters, says fleet vehicles should use the innovation inherent in DVR dash cams, lane departure sensors and GPS tracking to get the most out of vehicles.

“Fleet managers and owners need to be focused on driver safety. It is easy to get caught up with distractions on the road that can be very costly if they result in accidents,” Baldine says. “There are some great products that are reasonably priced and can be very effective in reducing danger and accidents while keeping vehicles and team members safe and productive.”

DVR dash cams and lane departure sensors are proven to decrease accidents.

“With these things, managers are able to track drivers and monitor efficiency. With the improved productivity, profitability is enhanced,” he says. “In addition to that, safety issues and accidents are reduced, keeping their vehicles on the road making money.”

Other options for fleet vehicles are back-up cameras, curb alert systems and hands-free Bluetooth kits, which help keep drivers safe and legal while they are in motion.

Reina says ways to ensure drivers remain alert include upgrading upholstery with seat covers and aftermarket heating grids. And since many workers on the road use their vehicle as their office, add floor or seat-mounted laptop holders to turn the passenger seat into a readily accessible workstation, and get a hotspot so your drivers are always connected.

The automotive aftermarket has everything you need to better outfit your drivers and vehicles for life on the road. Think about drivers’ comfort as well as their connectivity. Don’t ignore vehicle service, as you will pay more in the long run. Spend a bit more now and ensure your fleet stays on the road, always in support of your business needs.
